Okay, so my friend and I have been working on this for a month or so now, and I kept promising I'd post it, so I'm posting it.
Here's a brief overview... that's apparently not so brief. Sorry. ^^'
5 adventurers cheat Death and learn about the afterlife; Death destroys everything hunting them down; they hide while the world goes apocalyptic.
Apocalyptic here means you can have pistols, machine guns, swords, armor, etc. High-tech stuff should be severely limited, however.
***
The Bad Guys
One of these adventurers finds special slave-nanite technology and starts a cult, which he calls Phibos Meta-Phi, under the cover of a "humanitarian" organization called the Humanities Core United (HCU).
They promise to pass on the knowledge of the afterlife, as well as a whole bunch of other humanitarian things, but when someone comes in, they're implanted with the slave-nanite tech, which uses pain and/or death to ensure obedience.
For the cult circle - the people who are loyal despite this - the indoctrination procedure is long, ritualistic, and involved, and at the end, they are told the secret of the afterlife (i.e. slaves aren't, but the cult followers are).

The Good Guys
The other four adventurers, when they find out about the cult, they start gathering followers to fight. Together, they are called the Vibratus y Aduro Ordue, or the "Purgatory Club".
However, their "indoctrination" takes much longer, since they're very careful about who they trust, and they don't enslave people by the masses the way the bad guy does. By contrast, they are all highly committed to their cause, and they are all very strong.
Jerod - Old and gruff, gray-white steel/trimmed beard, shoulder-length hair with small braids and beads. Weathered face, bright blue eyes, usually dressed in white armor and wielding a giant sword he calls "Bessie". ~Will be RPed by me.

Death
Death is an entity. Usually depicted as a little girl. And she is played by my friend.
And she is not too pleased with these adventurers for managing to beat her at her own game and learning about the afterlife. So she's hell-bent* to hunt down everyone who knows about the afterlife and kill them, so they can't spread the news to other people.
*OBVIOUSLY not a pun XDXDXD
***
The Players
The above are all NPCs, to be roleplayed by myself and/or my friend as we see fit.
Other characters would actually be a group unconnected to any of the above events, but who are chosen to save the world.
The introductory scene will be in a bar, where the characters are listening to HCU propaganda and thinking about joining, when Jerod (who happens to also be there) starts challenging the HCU personnel, calling them liars, thugs, and slavers, and starts a brawl.
***
I will be posting characters myself if it ends up being there aren't that many, but I would prefer to have others post their characters so I can focus on the NPCs.
